Mrs. Carriere-Chalut grew up with a postage-stamp back yard in a small city, but with a love of animals.  She dreamed of caring for animals.  Even though life sent her in other directions both personally and professionally, Céleste has taken in and rehabilitated a variety of animals through the years and always maintained the dream of making a significant impact. Céleste’s main influence was her father Raymond Carrière, a retired Command Sergeant Major in the Army National Guard, who dedicated his life to charitable pursuits, receiving numerous awards and recognitions. Céleste learned and developed her work ethic, administrative, and organizational skills from her mother Doris. Céleste and Jeff continue to work their professional roles while caring for and rescuing animals who need to be re-homed. Céleste has 37 years of administrative, organizational, and project management experience. She has worked as the Senior Executive Assistant to the Chair & Physician-in-Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine for Brown University Health (formerly Lifespan)/Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University and President of Brown Emergency Medicine for 19 years.  Besides everyday operational tasks, Céleste manages special projects; trains administrative staff; administers various software applications along with training, just to name a few specialty focus areas. In addition to rescuing and caring for animals, Céleste has various hobbies including painting, arts and crafts, and DIY projects to help with animal enrichment.

Board Vice-Chair

Dr. Card grew up on a farm in Southern Rhode Island surrounded by animals both big and small and is the founder’s inspiration for launching this organization. Her passion for animals and the human animal bond led her to pursue a degree in animal science and technology at the University of Rhode Island while continuing to show her miniature horses across the United States. After finishing her bachelor’s degree, she decided to continue her academic journey at URI by pursuing a master’s degree in sustainable agriculture where her research focused on alternative anthelmintic treatments against small ruminant parasites. Following the completion of her Master of Science degree, Dr. Card attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her VMD. Upon graduating she moved back to Rhode Island and joined the team at Norwichtown Veterinary Hospital, Scituate Animal Hospital and now at Foster Veterinary Clinic where she strives to provide top-quality care to her patients. She has a wide array of clinical interests including preventative medicine, soft-tissue surgery, reproduction, behavior, and more. Dr. Card has an extensive background in farming operations and over 15 years’ experience of rescuing animals and working on a farm.

Chief of Staff / External Affairs

Dr. Christopher Card’s lifelong passion for animals began both at home and on his Nona’s farm, where he grew up surrounded by dogs and a variety of farm animals. This early experience ignited a deep curiosity about animal care and behavior that helped to shape his academic and professional journey. Dr. Card earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Technology from the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he developed a strong foundation in animal biology and husbandry. Following the completion of his Bachelor’s, his curiosity and dedication to the field led him to pursue a PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences at URI, further enhancing his expertise. Now a teaching professor at URI, Dr. Card is committed to sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation of animal science professionals. His courses emphasize not only the scientific principles of animal care but also the ethical considerations that come with it. In addition to his teaching role, he advises and mentors pre-veterinary students to help guide them in their pursuit of higher education and professional goals. Outside of work, Dr. Card enjoys immersing himself in the natural beauty of New England with his wife Dr. Bailey Card and spending time with their numerous rescued animals that fill their house.

Ms. Bowles has had a love of animals since she was a child. This passion was so great that she worked after school as a teenager to earn money to pay for her own horseback riding lessons. Ms. Bowles continued to share that love of animals while raising her three daughters, making sure they experienced interactions of all kinds, from attending Audubon camp, Zoo camp, going on bird watches, owning and caring for a variety of species, rescuing wildlife, and always having a couple of dogs and cats in the house. The Bowles family was very active in the church while the children were growing up. She became very proficient at organizing fundraisers, planning youth group events, serving as junior choir and youth alter service coordinator, Sunday school teacher, and organized and hosted coffee hour every Sunday for many years. Ms. Bowles received her associate’s degree from Katherine Gibbs and has served in progressively increasing administrative roles in Emergency Medicine for over 25 years. Ms. Bowles is currently the Executive Assistant to the Senior Director of Operations at Brown Emergency Medicine. Non-working hours are dedicated to her kids and grandkids, crocheting and working on the farm tending the flock of chickens and ducks.
